My grandfather had an old tube oscilloscope laying around. It doesn't turn on when you plug it in, so I was hoping someone might be able to give me a few tips on diagnosing problems with electrical equipment.

Thanks!

It probably wouldn't be worth troubleshooting, repairing, and recalibrating...

You can buy a handheld single-channel digital oscilliscope by Velleman on http://www.partsexpress.com - I bought mine for under $200, and it works very nicely, very easy to use.

Here you go - it's actually gotten less expensive:

$185, and it's as portable as a DMM.
It's closer to $125 if you have a PE dealer account.

I don't need an oscilloscope, he just had it lying around, so I figured I'd take it and try to work on it. I guess if it's not worth it though, I'll just junk it.

See if you can find a place that has a tube tester. Those little, hole in the wall, tv repair shop might have one.
Speaking of, I need to retube mine. If I can find the tubes.

When I plug it in, nothing is even turning on. The tubes would be no problem to replace; they're relatively cheap (although there are a few of them). I actually just bought some for my guitar head.
The problem is somewhere with the actual electronics.
