Does anyone ride? Post pictures, tell us about it.

I'm looking at buying a 1987 Kawasaki ZX10 (1000R Ninja). 26,000 original miles. It sat in a barn for 5 years under a tarp, then in a Jet hangar from the guy I am possibly buying it from for 8 years. The last guy rode it seldom, and the engine was rebuilt due to a bearing failure. I'll get two bikes for the price of one, he has another frame with everything on it but the engine. I'm not sure though...I'm going to go see it run on Thursday. The cosmetics aren't great, but I have access to a paint room and more tools than all the guys in the pits at the Indy 500 combined. So I was thinking about making a rebuild project. Fix up the other frame and ferrings, then when it's ready put the engine in. The guy wants $1500, but he also really wants to get rid of it because it just sits in his hangar and never rides it. I think if it runs up good, I'll offer $1k or $1100. It needs a new rear tire, chain and sprocket off the bat. I'm somewhat torn.

I need a car/bike to get me around town to keep miles off of my truck and save gas...my truck guzzles it almost as bad as GW's Charger. I'll either get a 1-2K bike or junker car to just get me around, this bike sounds like a fun project, but possibly another money pit like my truck.



This isn't the exact one, but to give you an idea. It's similar to Tom Cruises GPZ900 in Top Gun.

well youll have title issues unless you also get a title to the other frame.....if you need a tire, sprocket or chain hit this guy up

thats a guy ive know for more than 20 years and hell treat you right....i think 1500 is a more than fair price for it. espescially if you can ride it home....its a 20 year old bike with less than 30000 miles so as long as the fairings arent broken and all it needs is a paint job or buffed real good id say its a steal. might want to check insurance though, the money you save in gas might be outweighed by insurance. i dont know how old you are but im 36 and a buddy of mine i used to ride with is in his 20's and i paid less than 100 a year and his was 3k a year.......

yea Progressive for a 20yr old with a clean record is only 242 so Insurance isnt the issue its just u should check ur state laws on riding a motorcycle and licencing and registration

Your friend had to have had medical or collision on his policy then. Liability is cheap. Registration and all that is no big deal. Like I said though I haven't even seen it run yet. I'll make up my mind then depending on its performance.

plus the bigger the engine the more the insurance is... Also the year has a factor in it as well... My suggestion is to get like a 600 or a 750 they are nice and they have all the power u will ever need

Well I don't trust myself on 2 wheels anymore... ever since my brain surgery I get a twitch in my neck (gets worse when it's hot), so I haven't enjoyed the open road in a while... Some day I'll build a trike so I can get back out there...

True. But keep in mind when you're talking about a 20 year difference in technology. A new Suzuki GSX 600 or Yamaha R6 puts out more (or very close to the same) HP than this Kawasaki 1000. Newer bikes weigh nearly half as well. Aluminum has done a lot in the last decade. The 1987 has a top speed of 155, the worlds fastest in 1987. A new GSX 600 can hit 180mph stock. I personally video taped my roomate doing it. A modified Hyaiabusa (sp?) 1300cc with mods can hit 250mph. That is just insane and stupid though. I'd like to see the aerodynamics testing they had to do to figure out how to keep it on the ground.

They didnt even consider aerodynamics... most of those guys are just dumb as shit. LOL nah im joking... obviously they did but still why would u want to go that fast anyway?
