Dead Seagate Hard Drive

Well super computer passed away tonight.

Last few days when starting up occasionaly I got a disk boot failure line. After a push of the reset button it started right up fine then. Happened 3 times in total.

Tonight I got home from work and it wont stop saying that. So I go into BIOS and click on drive. It shows a drive is there but 0 capacity...

So I try a different sata plug for the hell of it. Same thing.

Called Seagate its under warranty and Im going to swap it out. Just pissed...

Glad its a fairly fresh install and I have a backup of almost everything except the last 2 months of stuff...

Im half tempted to buy a Western Digital drive right now and use the 500 seagate as secondary. Even though I only have like 160 gig used out of over 430...

Ouch... Well glad it's still under warranty. And a secondary drive still might not be a bad idea as a just in case.

Hard drives, if they are going to fail, typically fail within the first 30 days of you owning them. If they don't fail in that time, then they will last a few years (typically). While having a hard drive die on you real quick like that, it's annoying, but also I'd rather it happen then :) .

i've had my seagate 160gb sata for nearly a yaer and running strong, and the 750gb seagate sata for like 6-8 months same deal.

Ive only ever bought WD drives. Never ever had a hard drive failure or loss ofd ata, etc.

Bought this one for the price and 32MB buffer... Probably a mistake in hindsight.

Best case scenario this drive goes out Tuesday. They ship a new one by Friday, new one arrives Wednesday the following week...

I've bought tons of hard drives and honestly, I've never really had any bad experiences. I've had Maxtor, Seagate, and WD. I did have a 5 gig WD fail on me, but that was a long time ago now. The majority of my hard drives are $50 and $60 specials.

Awwwww man... What a crock of shit.

Ok, to get warranty...

I can pay to ship the drive from Ohio to Texas. Ok... Then I gotta wait 7 days for a replacement after they recieve my drive... shit.

To get 2 day Delivery I gotta pay $15 and pay to ship them my drive.

Or I can pay $21.30 and they will ship me a drive out asap with 2 day delivery and include return postage for my old drive back to them... Im not all for paying it, but I did. I get my drive replaced right away and have 30 days to send in the bad one. If I dont send it within the 30 days they will charge my card $280 though... which is total BS but shouldnt be a problem.

Its not bs its incentive for you to ship the drive back? wtf do you want them to do send out a tech to repair your drive on the spot? jesus Christ dude. did you check your newegg warranty? you maybe able to ship it to them and get one back sooner as there in illinois

I think the BS part is they will charge me $280 for a drive that only costs $90 some bucks right now...

Im going to send it in obviously... But their rates are a little crazy if for some reason the drive didnt make it back. Hell if it got lost in shipping Im going to be pisse dif I got to pay $280...
