Midbass Speakers

I've been searching my gonchies off looking for some 8" midbass type subs. I'm thinking freeair capable as I want to put them in the rear doors. I know it isn't the ideal place to put them. And that up front would be better but the room just isn't there for them.
I've only searched online so far and the Kicker SSMB8 comes up most frequent. I haven't found many reviews on these (though I haven't really searched reviews) and was wondering what your opinions were on these and if you knew of something better for equal or lesser price.
I know, lamest questions. But I really have no clue what the differences are in mids. I honestly feel like I should be looking at something completely different for midbass.
What I'm looking for is something that will bring out that tight thump of the kick drum. Whap whap whap... like a spankin' you know? Of course you know spankin'. Of course you do. :)

I'm confused. Are you looking for subs or midbasses? 70+ frequency range or under 70?

You and me both man. I'm guessing by your question I'm not looking for subs. Midbass subs must be a contradiction. As midbass must be above sub level frequency by a fair degree.
So, what am I looking for. I'm unable to judge/guess by frequency level to explain what I'm looking for. As my knowledge is lacking in that department.
I really only know how to explain what I'm looking for by explaining that I'm looking for that tight, hard kick bass that you feel from a kick drum.

If you could find either, Peerless XLS is about the best option I could think of but good luck finding any. The old JL Audio 8IB4s were really nice as well.
Other than that, I'd look into something like the SEAS L22 RNX midbass. very linear and an excellent suspension design, pretty much no noise at high excursion levels and very clean and tight.

Well, the Peerless and the SEAS are going to be fairly rare around these parts. And I will check up on some JL stuff. I can't think of a time that I've ever listened to JL, in person anyway. I have on videos but it isn't quite the same.
Thanks for the help.

A lot of people seem to be using the Seas L drivers as Jonathan mentioned and the Peerless SLS since they don't make the XLS anymore.

I've heard good things about the Dayton drivers and the Peerless Exclusives. Try madisound.com also. A little less expensive then the previous mentioned drivers, and probably not as good, but they still get pretty good reviews, especially for their price.

I forgot about the Dayton RS225, also a candidate.
Having used the Exclusives, I would say to avoid them as the midbass isn't that great. Unless there's a big difference between the 7 and 8" versions.
