Well I was really close to putting everything back together, but I just wasn't all that happy with how everything was turning out. The sequential turn signals were flaky and they had a lot of wires, and more wires = more chance of a failure.
So over the past few months, I've slowing been designing some PCBs. These are much cleaner than a prototype board like I was using before. I also designed a whole new circuit for the sequential effect. This is much better, and each channel is equal brightness. I noticed on the old design, each step got more dim then the last. That's all been fixed here.
I've also designed some enclosures for these PCBs, trying to get better light distribution.
Surface mount soldering is a pain, especially with old eyes that can't even see what I'm doing.
To make these work on the car, I needed a flasher that was adjustable. My current LED flasher was too fast, so I ended up getting this one. What I don't like, is that it doesn't make any ‘clicking’ noise when it's in use. So to get around this, I used a relay and tapped into the left/right signal wires. So now when the turn signals are going, the relay ‘clicks’. Kind of hack-ish, but it works.
Here they are in action.
