Any help please and will be greatly appreciated, my husband passed away a couple years ago and this was his car, my daughter just got her license and i am trying to make it nice for her, the car (suv) is a 2003 ford escape xlt,,

Sounds like you have engine noise entering the system. You may have always had it, but just couldn't hear it through the subs.
What you can try and do to fix it, is verify all the wiring. Couple things to check, make sure the ground wire to the amp is short and connected tightly to a clean piece of metal.

How are the RCA wires, I usually try and route them so they are not along side the power wire.

What model Sony stereo do you have?
