Its cool man. We see alot of people who don't really know what a gain is for, so I had to put it out there (just incase).

No, once my gain is set i never touch it, ill set it to match my other amps and leave it alone, the inly time I adjust the "gain" so to speak, would be the input level adjustment on my HU. I will adjust that level, depending on music type.

I'm pretty well knowledged about the do's and dont's, I pay alot of attention to the directions and advice I recieve. I am surely not stupid enough to be crankin the gain around every time I want a little bass boost. I have several alternatives to that.

And that statment Jeremy was made regarding when I setup my amps for the long haul.

If I am wrong, sorry, but it sounds like you are using the gain as a volume knob to turn your subs up and down.

The gain shouldn't be used as a volume knob. Its used to set the amps input stage to match the headunits output stage. Setting it to high or low can cause the amps input or output stage to clip.

Try googling aperiodic enclosure to find a picture and a basic design for one ;)

And please do not take the opinion I am a hater on Hifonics, I took alot of flak from my zapco loving friends. Since I couldnt afford great zapco at the time, I went for the Hifonics, I was really dissapointed in them, I had very high expectations and hopes that my system was going to rock, and I have to say that I did misstate the fact that the 440 did not fail, and neither did the components.

I actually still have one of the blown bx1500's, it ran for 2 days, then quit. If you are a dealer, I will send it to you to try and solve the mystery.


As for the box you mentioned for SQ with the L7's, I am ignorant to it, please educate me further.

PS if you want solobarics to sound good for SQ, consider an aperiodic enclosure. It's about the only way they'll be SQ subs. ever.

the amount of power they need or use depends more on your enclosure tahn your subs, and here's a quick lesson on speakers.
DCR does not equal Impedance. DCR will always be lower than the nominal impedance because you're dealing with a fixed inductance when reading DCR (DC resistance.)
What you read with a DMM was perfectly normal on the Atlas subs.

where were the gains on your amplifier set? and i talked to a few of my buddies both at kicker and at maxxsonics and both say your case is hard to belive. im not doubting you i know failures happen with everyproduct but this pretty crazy
