lately i havnt had time to do/ learn the above stuff but probably will during spring break; but now i'm having more problems. This time its really strange and i will be surprised if anyone has heard of this before: for now i have everything running off of my jbl 75.4, 2 ohm stereo to sub, 4 ohm stereo to front passive components. About 3 weeks ago my right components stopped working when the amp initially turns on. The only way to get the channel to work is to crank it (my amp hates quietness haha) I'll turn it up till it starts to clip and then the right channel works and i dont have any further problems ( i have to play it loud for about 20 seconds and its fine). amp has seen better days, so its not much of a surprise. Today i confirmed it was the amp by hooking up a working speaker to the non working channel to make sure it wasnt the x over. So, try that one on for size lol oh, trying to explain this buzzed and in the clouds wasnt easy lol, i can't wait tomorrow will be panama city, fl for spring break, hopefully this will make bill scratch his head

Well if thats the case its not the sub that took it. Grab your DMM check each leg of the FET's on the board. check Source to Drain lets if there open there bad. Find the diagram by searching the model number on the transistors.

i could do that, but i've got the fsq runnin on my 4 channel, a coil to a channel, i'd prolly notice if somethin was wrong with the sub, should i still hook it up to something?

power it up to a diffrent sub or speaker see if it makes noise

i can't remember if those lil guys are caps or what, but i've never seen them with black tips like that, i can't smell anything burned or that smells like sulfur but they are really small so i'm guessing if they were the problem i wouldnt be able to smell it

by Bwcad1 » Wed Feb 09, 2011 10:12 am

if they were blown it would smell like sulfur typically

well i took off the back cover and found two of the smaller caps have black tips on them, not sure if its ink or if the're blown, ill get some pics later

i'm not sure, because i can't remember if it has a different colored light for protect, but the amp light comes on. (red, like it has since i've owned it) I know the protection circuit works because it has in the past for low voltage when i had a bad ground about 2 yrs ago. For every thump there is enough current draw to cause a tiny bit of dimming.

Does the amp protect light come on?

by loudwagon15s » Wed Feb 09, 2011 6:15 am

the sub seems fine, though i'll check the coils when i take the amp out. i dont think its the source because it still happens when i unplug the rca's.
