Weathertech

Post by Chris from Washington »

I used to believe that Weathertech was a stand up company that stood behind their products, but that sure is not the case.

I have their wind deflectors (front/back and sunroof) on my 2004 4Runner. I've had them maybe 3 or so years, not really sure.

For some reason the passenger front deflector has started to fade, it's almost clear now. It's very noticeable, and it's the only one doing this. The other 3 are just fine, and the sunroof are fine.

So there is something wrong with this one deflector, a defect of some kind causing it to fade.

So I emailed Weathertech about it, thinking if they saw the pictures of it, they would cover it, no problem.

Well got a response back, they don't even want to see the pictures, here is their response.

They expect me to fork over another $27 to get a replacement.
Thank you for your inquiry with MacNeil Automotive Products Limited!
Unfortunately, we only offer a one-year warranty on this product, but we can split up a set and sell you a single replacement. The cost is only $27.50 plus $6.00 s/h.

Feel free to contact us with any questions.

Best Regards,

Jennifer
So just wanted to warn anyone who wants to buy anything from Weathertech. Their warranty is crap!!!

I've had the no name el cheapos from the auto parts store never fade on my last 4Runner. So I thought paying the extra for Weathertech meant I would never have any problems what so ever, and if I did. They would take care of it. So much for that!

Here are some images to show what's happening. Keep in mind my 4Runner is parked in the garage most of the time too!! So it's not sitting out in the sun everyday.

You can really see it in this image.

and here is the drivers side, so you can see how it looks when it isn't faded.

It really ticks me off when companies don't stand behind their products. I take care of my 4Runner, and when I spend money on accessories I expect them to last longer then this. Especially since the truck sits in the garage most the time, and is not out in the elements.

Wow now thats strange.

I would ask for a manager on the phone.

Tell them your a member of about 6 different car/truck forums and you will let the masses know how they treat their customers.

When all else fails I guess you will have to replace it. It does look rather silly. Wonder why it did that?

Ya I responded back telling them that I would never buy another weathertech product again, and be sure tell everyone I know just how lousy their products are.

I have no idea why it's doing that, but it's getting worse. My dad even noticed it yesterday and asked why that one visor looks 'greenish'.

I always thought weathertech had lifetime warranties too, I thought that's why they cost so much more. Guess they are just another company living off their name now.

I thought so too. I actually thought I saw it in a ad, maybe I didnt though.

I have never had a set fade like that. I dont buy weathertech either though. I always got the cheapies from like walmart or something. LOL

Working in CS myself, I can tell you that since she did not care enough to take care of an out of warranty issue like this, I doubt they care if you know the Pope, let alone a number of message boards. If the company cared about you and not your influence, they would be much better off. I know that here we try to help everyone. Sometimes it is in our best interest to help people that really don't qualify for help under our warranty. we do it out of respect for the customer. If more companies would do the small things, they would have a much more loyal base than otherwise. The bottom line is not always the best indicator of a successful business.

Wait.

You're pissed because a company wont warranty an item out of warranty?

I am confused. Maybe I am not reading this right.

Well thats the bottom line, to them.

One would think the warranty on such things would pretty much cover breakage. But loss of tint? On only one of four pieces. Thats just down right strange.

And Jon I think this goes back to a "Baby Banz" issue Chris had. Lol, now that was a riot!

It is not just about the "out of warranty' coverage. To me it is just good customer service. If he had tried cleaning them with acetone or something yeah he wouldnt have a case, but just normal wear, and "normal" in this case being stored in a garage most of the time, something is just not right. I think they should at least send him the one to replace the defective one, at the very least. Not just totally blow him off that is just plain rude.

Ya the problem is, this 1 deflector is fading for no reason at all. The truck is stored in the garage, and I live in Washington so it's not like we get sun up here anyways.

If I abused them, or left the truck outside all the time. Then they would all look the same, and I could see them not wanting to replace a whole set. But I have 1 deflector that turned greenish/clear for really no reason.

It is a customer service thing, I've always heard how great Weathertech was, and that's why they cost SOOOO much more compared to everyone else. That's why I purchased their product, thinking if anything odd like this happened, they would go out of their way to make things right.

but it looks like it isn't the case, and they care more about the bottom line then keeping a long time customer happy. For now on, I won't bother purchasing anything from them because their warranty is lousy (wish I would have noticed the 1 year before I bought them) and you can get the no name brands for much less. I had the no name deflectors on my old 4Runner never faded at all and had them on there for 4 years, and that truck did sit outside all the time.

So what's the point of paying so much more for Weathertech? None really?

My post is mostly too, to let anyone else out there doing a search to see what brand to get, to see this and know that there is only a 1 year warranty, and to also see what could happen to theirs too.
