10" American Bass DX.

Post by MobileAudio219 »

This is just an initial review. I will go into more detail once I get it all installed.

First Impression:

Looks: Going on pure looks alone, it looks like it belongs somewhere between a kicker comp and a kicker comp vr.

Information: I am a bit disappointed that the sub does not come with an Owners Manual, the Technical Specs, or any kind of literature. Included inside the box was the sub itself and the packaging foam. They did print some of the "Sub-woofer Features" on the outside of the box, but even then they listed the Max Power as 300 watts, and the RMS 600 watts...

I should mention that the website does include the Technical specs, which states the RMS as 250 watts? :banghead Also, nowhere on their website (that I could find) do they recommend enclosure sizes. It sort of just gives everything a generic feel.

Overall: I think the sub will fit my needs just fine. It's important to keep in mind this is a budget sub, but even at that I'd rather pay an extra dollar and get some information with the sub...

Would I buy more products from American bass? Yeah, Probably. But I think there's some stuff they need to work on to improve their company.

Edit: Haha, that's funny. Honestly that makes me feel a lot better about AB. I was wondering WTF it didn't come with a manual... Thanks Ryan!

UPDATE: Got the sub installed. I must say, for a budget sub this thing sounds great. It's not to loud, but the sound quality really surprised me. I haven't had a lot of time to sample a huge variety of music, but here is what I think so far.

Rock, alternative, metal, blues, etc, all sound amazing. Collective soul - Shine, Amazing!!!!! The system as a whole just really makes this song "shine". If you mainly listen to any of the music above and don't have a huge budget, this sub is for you... as long as you're not looking for a ton of output.

Rap: It's plays it well. It's a single ten with 340 watts, so you can't expect a crazy amount of spl, but it does a pretty decent job. While it's not insainely loud, it does sound really good no matter what you though at it.

If you don't care about SQ and you're looking more towards SPL, you can probably find something better for the same price. If you're looking for a sub that sounds great and you're one a budget, this sub is for you...

SPL: 5/10

SQ: 7.5/10

Um the sheet is my fault.

I pulled it out to go over the specs and it didnt make it into the box again!

:words

I will put it in an envelope and send it off to you tomorrow!

The manual is just TS specs and cutouts, etc. There is NO box information.

10" American Bass DX.

Vehicle: 93 s10, regular cab.

Sub Enclosure: 1.16 cuft tuned to 38hz. I was restricted in space, otherwise I'd probably go a bit bigger.

Amp: Hifonics ZXI 6410 - 340 Watts going to the sub.

First Impression's:

Looks - I was surprised how stout it looked. For a budget sub it definitely looks pretty beefy! Mine came with the black basket, which made me happy as I didn't care for the chrome at all!

SPL - Prior to installing it, I played the sub free-air off a home receiver (probably 50 watts) for about 6 hours so it'd be properly broken in. Once installed, I played some 3-6 mafia and other bass heavy music. Not bad! It get's pretty loud for what it is. If I had to guess I'd say around the 130db range.

SQL -The real surprised came when I played the some metallica, pantera, eagles, etc. The sub handled it extremely well. It played them loud and clear, I was quite impressed. This isn't a peer sound quality sub, nor is it an all out spl sub. To define it in a few quick words - it's a really good budget sql sub!

Overall Impressions - If you're looking for a budget sub that gets decently loud and sounds really good (with limited power and space) - this is your sub! If I had more room I'd upgrade to a pair of 12" DX's, but that with the space I have I'm really happy with the single 10". If I could do it all over again I'd stick with the 10" DX as it fits my requirements perfectly.
