Well, hi friends. Again, it has been awhile.
Exciting news though. I was given a 96 Accord Lx Sedan a few months ago and am installing a new audio system.
Goals: To not have it stolen and strictly SQ on a very modest budget.
I upgraded my HU to a nice Eclipse Double Din CD1200G. It's an awesome one-nob, factory looking head unit.
I just ordered some 6.5 Phoenix Gold RSD components from Amazon and look forward to getting those set up soon. (Will need help on imaging later)
Bought a pair of Alpine Type S 6x9's brand new for super cheap for the rears.
I have a single 8" JL W0 running out of a custom enclosure that is perfect for my little accord.
Now that I've updated you (it's been awhile :awesome :) ,
I'm about to install a Eclipse 3640 amp and wanted some opinions on it before I switch out my PPI PCX5800 5 channel (which is a pain in the ass to get the little connector parts for).
Better/worse/opinions in general? Experience with the 3640?

Personally, if you are trying to get good imaging, I'd leave the rears out for now.
Unless you have a processor to do band limited l-r mono rears they are just going to be detrimental to imaging and sound stage.
It was hard for me to overcome the urge to put rears in my car as well, but when I finally did, I realize it is much better, and no one has ever complained saying it wasn't loud enough from any seat in the car.

Yo Falken, I totally understand where you're coming from, although I disagree with the whole "when you go to a concert the sound is in front of you" idea.
I was more trying to find opinions on the amp just to validate me spending cash on it lol.

I understand that whole concept, don't get me wrong. I play the drums professionally and have recorded 3 albums in multi-million dollar facilities across southern california. I've worked on a live sound crew that put on concerts for 50,000 people. I certainly don't know everything, and I only list my experience to give you an idea of where I've been too.
The heart of music is the way it moves your emotions. The way it captures you. If I like the way my vehicle sounds at a loss of what you say is "technically" better, then so be it. What you can't tell me is "the music will move your emotions more if you ditch the rears." What I can say is that the music surrounding me makes me respond to it in a different way. It gets my full attention.
I won't ever win a SQ competition. And you're right, technically it is more accurate, but if we measured what is better by my response to the music, I vote speakers all around.
