help with a box

Post by colemanyoungerinalaska »

max width 41
depth 23
height 31
this is going to be in the back seat trunk wont open unless i climb through the rear seat and **** with it this is how i have to close it too
needs a new latch or something

drivers will be 2 quad coil tc 3000 15s
these give me really weird numbers when i model them

so heres what i came up with

40x22x22
2 6 inch aeros tuned to 29 hz
both subs and ports firing forward

or

SLOT PORT
41x23x20 tuned to 30
5.5 inch wide 18.5 high not sure on the length got 3 separate numbers from 3 separate programs 36.75 and 32.98
bass box was giving me crazy numbers once it said 27 and another time it said 44. something

i wonder which one is correct?

id draw it out but im terrible with sketchup so heres the cut sheet for the slot port box using the numbers i got the first time

The big question how much power are you planning to run.

Can you post the specs on those drivers.

Take the models you ran in winisd and wipe your butt with them cause there worthless lol.

At first glance looks like your box is wayyy to big (unless your compensating for lack of power)

I'm not a fan of tuning in the 20's i think its completely useless but that's just me. All you do is loose output over the bandwith for the very little output you gain from 29-35 which 99% of music doesn't produce anyways.

Post some more info and we can figure this out.

after i account for port area and displacement the box comes out to about 6.9ft3
i tuned so low because of the weird ass numbers i was getting unless i tuned low plus ive enjoyed other tc subs tuned low

Quad 1.4Ω
Qts 0.308
Qes 0.324
Qms 6.10
Fs 22hz
Res 4.63Ω
Ls 9.2 mH
Lp 20.2mH
Rp 27.66Ω
Dia 325mm
Vas 146l
mms 373g
cms 140um/N
bl 27.1T*m
Spl 88.6dB
Xmax 30mm

cutout 14.10"
mounting depth 10.5"
displacement 0.14ft3
1000 watts continuous power (3000 watts peak) these can take more but i can only give them about 2400 watts right now until i get better a better amp

dimensions are external
the first box is way off bassbox was giving me some big numbers for port length and port displacement i dont know why but its acting normal now

now im coming up with 17.5x41x20.25
2 6 inch aeros 15.85 inch long
so it should be 6.858 ft3 total tuned to 35

I have 6.13 after sub displacement and port displacement. Sounds much better to me. You should be able to put gobs of power on them without a problem in that box.

i managed to get bass box to have the same error again. when i switch from something like 4 4 inch ports to 2 6 inch it geeks out and says the ports should be extremely long then to fix it i just have to change the vent type or shape a couple times then it starts working again. kinda weird its only done this on windows 7 starter havent been able to duplicate it on xp or windows 7 ultimate yet. 7 starter sucks ive had quite a few apps that wont work on it or i have to copy dll files from xp or other places to get them to work.

i wanted to get this done by saturday for the first competition of the year but every single place that sells it was out of mdf. i could have used birch but i was kinda set on mdf. for some reason they all said next week. so i missed the comp but saw allot of the cars im pretty sure i wouldve done really good with what i have in the car now.

Window's has nothing to do with the error your getting. People blame windows for that type of shit when in reality it has nothing to do with it. You probably just got something weird in your formula and it error'd. Use psp-inc.com for your port length as that's who actually makes the ports.

Bassbox and winisd as far as design programs DO NOT WORK... They are good for a general idea of box sizes but using it as a design program is worthless especially for SPL.

Birch is far better than MDF both in strength weight and tool wear but is much more costly.

i dont rely solely on bass box i usually use it after ive decided the dimensions and the tuning of the box because it accounts for port, sub and bracing displacement.

w2hen it comes to plywood i assume the more layers the better?

The more layers the stronger. What you need to look for is Voidless however. Thats more important than how many layers.
