Newbie Help

Please forgive my newness. I really don't know much about car audio at all (the guys at Audio General love to see me coming). Anyway, a friend gave me 2 old kicker 10s and a Pioneer amp neither of which were in very good condition. I asked the guys at AG to check them out for me and the amp was shot so I bought a new RF P2002 to push the 10s.

Turns out they sound really bad and I want to replace them now. I hate going back to AG not knowing anything. I don't want to wake everyone in the neighborhood up but I do like a good deep bass sound. I have a 2001 Grand Am 4dr if that helps with suggestions on subs. I don't really need two if I could find one that sounded good with my amp. Please help.

welcome to the board and you are in one of the worst situations possible(not knowing anything, and a car audio shop knowing you dont know)anyways i hate to tell you this but you made a mistake by buying that amp, that amp puts out 50 watts each channel, if you bridged them you get 200 watts, well if you want a decent subwoofer set up that is not gona be enough, even if you get some cheap entry level stuff 100 watts a sub is still pretty weak, DONT go back to that shop(unless youre returning the RF) give us a price on how much youre willing to spend and whe will get you the BEST stuff for the BEST price , that way nobody can take advantage of you, ive been there it sucks.

Is your subwoofer box built per the specifications of the subwoofers? What frequencies are your subs playing? Where is the gain on the amp set? This may just be a configuration problem, so you might not need to really spend anymore money.

Welcome aboard.

There are a few ways we can approach this issue:

Configuration Issue- If this was installed by a Shop chances are your good here. Biggest possiblity is the box.
Look for a sub to match your amp.
Look for a whole new system in a specified budget.

As for replacement subs. WIth that low of power I would have to say JL 15" W0 series. This should give you enough bass in the cabin without waking the neighbors up. Trouble is box size, I would reccomend sealed.

A whole new system could get costly. But chances are this is the best situation. Especially if you dont think 120ish dB is loud enough (guess at where the 15 W0 will land you).

Isn't a 15 a bit much for him to worry about? That's going to be quite the box for him to move around while he is learing to tweak his system. Just my 2 cents.

2 1/4 cubic foot box. Not to bad?

Eh if you think thats to much then try a 12"
