Frequency rates?? Where they go?

One thing I do not see on the in house brand subs are frequency ranges. What happened to them??? Now that I am considering getting a 15" sub for the first time ever, I thought.. lets find a sub that plays VERY low and have some fun. Way back in 1993 I bought two Pioneer subs that were rated all the way down to 18hz. I had some fun with some Bass CD's back then that would produce notes so low, there was no sound, but the car rattled like you know what lol! Anyway since I am going to have 8" midbass drivers, and my sub will only be playing 55-60Hz and down, I thought well lets find a sub that goes as low as possible. However I do not see any stats like that on any of the sites. What gives? Who has a sub 20hz 15" sub out there lol

Thats because that measurement is fairly useless.

Most Amps cut off around 20 Hz. And for the high end of the stick if your much over 100 Hz your crazy...

my sub will go to around 18hz ive played it there but it had almost no sound

Like Bass said, most amps don't even produce freq that low. They generally have a cutoff around 20-24hz

the measurement is mostly useless because it's anechoic, and changes in the car, and in a box.. not to mention most audio source material is filtered at 20Hz and 20KHz, and you'll cross over the drivers before they run out of their frequency range to avoid other issues like cone flutter.
For a 15" sub, cross it over around 50-60Hz. no higher, or it'll flutter and sound "boomy" or "loose."
the chart would say it'll play to 200Hz, but don't bother trying it.
as far as how deeply it'll play.. look at the sub's Fs. If it's a ported box, you don't want to tune the port below the Fs of the driver anyway, and then you'll filter at that point too, in order to prevent the sub from unloading.
If the box is sealed, it should go to about 10Hz flat with cabin cain factored in so that's not much of an issue either.

Cool thanks. I just remember the Pioneers were fun. Anyway, SQ is the most important thing for my system anyway. Yes I am looking at a 15" sub because I will have 8" midbass drivers in my doors playing 55-60Hz-250Hz. I figured since the sub was not going to have to play the 60-80hz range like I normally have it do, I could go with a 15" to match my new large front stage. I will have CDT Eurosports in the kick pannels, Upstage Tweeters in the A Pillar, CDT EF-8 midbass driver in the front doors, And some kind of good 15" in the trunk.

I don't know what you are looking to spend on this driver... but here are a couple of good recommendations for SQ...

The most affordables...
Dayton Titanic MkIII 15"... uses copper rings in the coil. Low distortion driver.

Diamond D6 15"... excellent SQ sub line from Diamond Audio.

Diamond TDX D9 15"... expensive, but again low distortion & extreme output.. prob 2nd only to the W7 in SQ. In my extensive use of Diamond drivers (I used to sell them) the D6 is perhaps their best SQ sub, but no where near as capable in output.

Want to dare & be different??? This is one I have been wondering about for a while... certainly has the features that make up a SQ sub...

If I end up spend in excess of $300 on a subwoofer, I will probably go with a Stereo Integrity Mag 12 or 15"
