My first post and tons o questions.

Post by ZeroAccess »

I accidentally posted this in the Faq section....Realizing I did that I figure it may get deleted over there so I'm gonna repost it. If I'm screwing ya up mods I apologize.

Have a few brands/models in particular I am curious about

Lanzar (Mainly vibe272 amp)
Hifonics (Zeus 1006amp)

And I have a few questions/advice needed
Ok so far I have a Sony HU (came with car...) forget what model but Xplode series
Pioneer 6x8's in all 4 doors w/ Dynomat covering them (came w/ car)

One Alpine MRV-F450 5channel powering a Diamond Audio Sub
Alpine amp ever since I bought it has been a peice went to return it and store kicked me out, Called alpine and they stated they were having problems with said store and I just got dicked around for a while. I had the four speakers powered off the amp and it sounded good so I may go back to that.

Diamond Audio 10" sub in sealed box sounds like poo too, I even sent 500watts to it from a friends amp...pure poo

Here is what I was planning grab a Hifonics or Lanzar amp and push two 12's at around 500watt rms each in a sealed/ported box. Use the alpine amp to push two 8" subs on top of the 12's. Use the HU to power the speakers. Later down the road I'd love to steal my friends Pioneer HU and I think I can get it for free so that'd rock.

Just wondering though
Running two 12" subs @2ohms and 2 8" subs@4ohms on diff. amps shouldn't have any SQ problems right?

My budget for 2 12's, 3.0F Cap,Amp,Box,2 8's,Box and wiring is 600 dollars.
I'm a mechanic so wiring and boxes I'll build so no big deal there. I'm more interested in SQ than PURE hard hitting bass. I'd like to hit at least 140ish and be able to hear the entire system. Right now my highs are MORE than sufficient and I believe that with all the bass I can use the LPF and HPF to tune my highs just where I need them.

are the 8s going to be for midbass?
kinda silly to have 2 12 subs, and 2 8s.

1st - check out the good, bad and ugly thread in the faq: http://www.caraudiocentral.net/forums/showthread.php?t=32
Hifonics over Lanzar Vibe series any day.
Better for the 8's to be midbass (maybe in the rear deck or something) and the 12's for the bass, but don't under estimate a lot of the more decent subs these days... 500wrms x 2 is the same as 1000wrms x 1 with a better sub :)
Now on to your poo sounding subs... could be the subs, but more times than not it is the enclosure.
Awesome subs (SQ or SPL) only sound that way if properly wired and in the right box... we've got a lot of box builders here that can give you some tips for that ;)
Last if you want good SQ get your buddies pioneer and get rid of the 6 x 8"s, more cone space never makes for better sound when it's oblong... either get or fab up brackets for some 5.25" or 6.5" components for the front and you'll be on your way to a good system :thumbsup

Oh one thing I forgot... 3 farad cap is probably not the best idea, better to upgrade your alt and the big 3 wires.

Yea, I was looking at Ryan for the boxes or get some templates and build my own.
the 8's were going to be strictly for midbass and have the 12's go for the low/mid.
In all honesty I figure instead of losing my butt on this Alpine amp I may as well use it.
I'm not wanting the biggest and bestest competition setup. Just something I can turn to moderate/loud levels and listen to half way decent.

I think the sealed enclosure for the Diamond is just killing everything and I know the Alpine is burning itself out on the 5th channel but it powered 2 kicker 10" CVR's for like 2 minutes before it started shutting off and it sounded GOOD!!.

The 6x8's were there and in all honesty probally stay there untill I can get a really good deal on a some components but they're the least of my worries. I'm really trying to figure out what subs to go with. And just curious why not go with the cap? I have 4 gauge running through the car right now. Thinking 1,500-2,200 watts max I'm gonna have some issues.

The fact is that you are going to have some serious issues when you start drawing that much power away from the car, so the best answer is to upgrade the power going to the car ='s bigger alternator and big 3 wiring (Motor to chassis ground, Alternator to Battery Positive, and Battery Negative to Chassis Ground)... Don't get me wrong capacitors have their place, but better in small portions, otherwise the cap is just draining from your system rather than the amp(s).

Oh and as far as getting a really good deal on components... there are usually some pretty good deals going on in the for sale section and there are a few dealers on here like myself that give some better deals to our board brothers ;)

if you're gonna be pulling 1.5k watts, id suggest a secondary battery too, along with the eletrical upgrade

Blows my mind just pushing 1.5k watts would need so much more upgrading
I figured a lil ground wiring and a stronger alternator + cap should do the trick.

Really a 2nd battery?

Ok Dumb question now
How do you wire in the 2nd battery?
Do you do it in series like with the other battery or parrallel
Anyone recomend a certain one? I'm not sure where I'm gonna be able to mount the sucker but I guess I'll have to figure that out.
