e-brake slides
e-brake slides
Well my friend was showing me some e-brake slides in his car last night and i wanna try them on my car. What im wondering is would it be safe to do in my car (1992 Nissan Maxima). I have all new tires and a new alignment on it, but the reason im asking is because he has a 2001 Grand am GT, and its almost like a sports car. All the videos i've seen online show it being done in a sports type car. Just wondering if I could do them safely in a regular four-door. I dont want to tip over and fuckn die or something.

Well it is never good for the car to do that but I don't htink you will roll it or anything either. One thing to be aware of though is that the e-brake is a cable not a fluid line like the rest of your brakes and if you don't use you e-brake often the cable becomes rusted and full of crap over the years. Then when you use it, it either won't release at all or it doesn't fully realease and chews the shit out of you pads and rotors (or shoes and drums) in a hurry.
I live in Michigan and if you don't use your e-brake often here you don't use it all because all the salt and shit ruins the cable in a hurry.

My E-brake works fine. The car is a '92 and it still does the job. My cousins have a really steap driveway and I always use it when I park at their house, so I know it works.
I just dont want it to tip because its not anythin like the car my friend was using last night. His is a much newer, and faster sports car almost. Mines just an average 4-door nissan

I have a 4 door Sentra and I do ebrake slides all the time. It's a lever ebrake and its very fun. Just don't be surprised if you have some wheel shudder the next day at 100km/h+. That's just snow getting in behind your rim when yer going sideways and causing some rubbing when it compacts in there. You don't even notice it til yer at higher speeds. If that happens just grab yer windshield scraper or some shit and poke it out, or go through a car wash. I have factory tuned suspension and as long as you're not sliding into curb or speed bumps you shouldn't flip over. Just don't do it in a big suv or van

I had some better slides... but the camera work was shoddy, these are the best I got with decent camera work.

Dumb dumb and dumb
Here's why...
E-brake is a cable system like Chris said.
Cable will stretch and can potentially cause a lot of dmg down the road. I had a friend that did those on a..fairly rare basis. We were luckily at his house when I walked out to smoke a cigg. and next thing you know his car comes flying down the drive-way. Missed a few big trees and luckily ended up landing in a ditch. Problem was his cable had stretched and even though it had been sitting in his driveway for a few hours it apparently just gave way and broke. He got lucky but can you imagine how much dmg can be caused for just some ebrake sliding?
Also, its not a good idea to pull the E-brake ALL the way up if you don't need it. It promotes stretching/detoriation of the cable as well. If your on level ground pull it till you feel it tighten and go about 1/2 more clicks. Untill you get use to the car try and move it SLOWLY and if it moves easily just pull a lil tighter.
