having trouble understanding dvc

I have decided to buy an alpine type r 12" sub. The problem is i'm having trouble understanding the dual voice coil part.
I have an amp that is 400w rms bridged @ 4 ohms, or 800w rms bridged @ 2 ohms.
So, I have no idea how to hook up the amp. I dont understand how the ohms change with a bridged amp and a dvc sub.

i also have a Type R 12", mine is dual4ohm, so mine is wired at 2ohms, my JBL 600.1 does 300rms at 4ohms, 600rms at 2ohms and 1ohm, so i can either wire my Type R at 8ohms or 4ohms, at 8ohms, the sub would only be getting like a 100rms, so obviously the 2ohm configuration is my best option to give the subs optimum performance.. the Type R will handle 800rms and be fine. if yours is dual4ohm.. check out my Photobucket page and go to Saturn for pics of my ride/stereo.

Scarrell I like your layout a lot. I've read a couple of your other type r posts. It looks like you're getting the most out of that sub. I'm planning to use your same box design. Any tips on making it?
I also read you tuned your sub to your box, how could I do that?

when you tune a box, it depends on the width and length of the vent or tube you use, you see that L shape in my box? that is what gives my box the 30hz tuning, because of the width of the vent, and how long it is, a couple other people have used my design and had Great results. im powering my Type R with a JBL 600.1 at 2ohms, so the sub is seeing 600-700rms, so if you give the Type R 600-1000rms, it will do fine. you will need to set your gains correctly ofcourse, so you do not get any clipping, make sure you use MDF for the wood, deck screws, glue(i use Gorilla Glue, and i have used Elmers Wood Glue with great results, you can use liquid nails and silicone also, but make sure you wipe up the excess, as they Will run, so let the glue dry some before you put the sub in so none of it falls on the sub), and be sure to predrill your holes, and dont put the screws to close to the corners, i put my screws on the corners about 2" away, and every 4"-5" or so.. if you have any questions hit me up on AIM or MSN
