Bill for once im gonna side with ya here... I used to be AMD all the way up untill the Core Duo's came out... All i can say is move on over AMD you just lost one. I have been converted...

I have given up on PC's though... Im switching to MAC... I recently got to try out the new Macbook... all i can say is " I'm sold!"

Also got to try the new Mac PRO... Extremely expensive... but it can do everything... probably run the country if needed... lol Uses Dual 8 core Processors as an option and its amazing.

Sorry im going off on a tangent...

But yea Bill is Right the Core Duo's kick ass... the 2.2's or even 2.4's are amazing even for the price.

There's still hope for AMD to make a come back. But if you're buying now, intel is the way to go.

Airforceyooper wrote:well that sucks. lol. Has intel fixed their heat issue? They always ran rediculously hot compared to amd. I guess I'll have to start looking at intel again. :(
BTW the Duo's run considerably cool compared to what they used to... but that may change with the new version or somethign like that...
Edit:: Its Called the Penryn Version

Intel is currently winning the race, the cost/performance is much better with Intel. Check out Tom's Hardware and see some of the benchmarks they have.

If you want great performance on a budget - do this http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/09/12/ ... dual_core/

I built one of these for someone, didn't push it as far as the article does. Its very stable and was easy to do.

hate to say this but intel is the way to go until amd fixes their l3 cache issues also ive never seen and intel that was hotter than an amd unless it was way overclocked. i usually use stock cooling in intel and always use liquid cooling with amd.
the older amds generally whooped intel. i still have an old 3200+ system that i use for games

Thanks for the help guys . I guess I still have some planning to do, since I don't plan to build it right away I have no problem taking my time. I guess I will have to do some reading as I had Intel before but always liked AMD more.

i still use amd
my main music machine is a dual athlon mp 2800+ setup
could do games on that one if i wanted but i prefer not to let that one touch the internet or have many services running on it or do anything other than music with it.
i have a few intel machines my media server is intel then i have an internet machine in the new addition that is intel based
the machines i use the most like my laptop and desktop are all amd

I have been hardcore amd as well for the past few years. My current system was top'o'the'line when I built it almost two years ago, and it still kicks ass. Its a 3800+ 64, asus board, dual corsair, nvidia 6600. Does just fine for what I need I suppose. I would LOVE to get some of that new stuff, but my money is in the stereo business right now.

As far as intel, yeah they are faster now, but I still like AMD better. Just because I can.

I'm still using the 2.8 gig AMD machine I build going on 8 years ago. lol. It's slow as I don't know what ... but it's reliable. I've got Muskin 222 special ram in it and a 9700 pro video card iirc which had just come out back then. It will play CIV IV, but very slowly and the video messes up sometimes. Building a new system is on my to do list, right behind my car stere, new laptops for me and my wife, and a small list of other slightly more important things. Hopefully by the time I decide to build a new maching, AMD will be back on their game.
