Need help with speaker choice

The next best thing to the Seas raw drivers are Dayton's new line The Reference series. Their popularity drew enough demand that they will be available in 4ohm unshielded soon (I have not had any trouble removing the shielding & bucking magnets nor with the fact they are 8ohms)... available from Partsexpress.com

Needless to say... I am certain most will find the price difference is much greater than the slight performance edge... and I think that to be an under statement...

Also the new Peerless Exclusive line deserves an honorable mention although the are in between the Seas & Dayton price range...

Yeah, Dayton and Peerless have some impressive stuff, especially for the price. I'd still take the Excels, but that's just me :)

Well indeed if money was not an issue... I'd probably have Seas drivers & Ribbons...

But for those like me that indeed it is... you can get pretty damn close at a much more greater price difference...

I work in Public Affairs and currently stationed at Bolling AFB in Washington DC.

I haven't checked out your review yet, but I will. I'm very big on research before spending money. I used to sell Eclipse a few years back when I still lived in Michigan. PG, JVC, Pioneer and Coustic also. I used to be very picky about what I bought but slipped lately with the Audiobahn. I only bought them because the were shallow enough to fit in my factory spot. Now I'm looking into rebuilding my doors. A project not easily tackled living in an apartment in the city.

ok, I'm definately going to get the Eclipse head and of course I'll keep my kicker subs and 5 farad cap. I will replace my front and rear speakers and amps. First thing will be the speakers. I will be using the active xover in the head unit so I guess rear speakers are null and void. I'm going to have to rebuild my door regardless so I was looking at the Morel set with the 8" mid. Depending on how my door is going to lend itself to modification. I'm hoping to look at that tonight after work. Near as I can tell, correct me if I'm wrong, running the active xover in the Eclipse head means no back speakers and two way in the front only, no three way, right? So, two way sets only. As for amps, the elevation audio amps look good. I haven't scoured the suggestion list completely yet, but if anybody has any bias or unbias suggestions, lets hear them. But let me hear why too, not just because. Hopefully before Xmas I'll be able to get this whole thing together. Definately before summer.

no ribbons here at present, but looking at ribbons or Esotar tweeters for my car now.. presently using DynAudio for my front stage in the car, and KEF Referecne and martinLogan electrostatics an home.
I love ESLs for home audio.

Yooper, I'm in MI at present myself, and amusingly, moved here from the DC area (parents were both USAF officers) and I worked at a shop (small chain) in the DC area, where even more amusingly we carried Coustic, JVC, and Eclipse as well.. along with Alpine, Orion, Boston Acoustics, Pioneer Premier, and Kicker/Stillwater designs back in the early/mid 1990s.

Funny how similar that worked out, eh?
I sorta miss Bolling and Andrews although I spent more time around the pentagon helipad and at Ft Belvoir and Quantico truth be told.
