Pioneer GM-X364 4 channel amp

Post by William from NOLA »

This amplifier seems solid, but is deceiving. All of Pioneer's non-Premier line are of equal quality in performance for the price. You get moderate performance, honestly. In my few months of use of this amplifier, I found it to be overrated (powerwise) and mediocre in sound quality.

The power for the amplifier I own called for 35Wx4 at 4 ohms, 40Wx4 at 2 ohms, 70Wx2 at 4 ohms. As you may recall, power output for almost all amplifers doubles from 4 ohms to 2 ohms. This leads me to believe that this amp is probably putting out closer to 20 wrms at 4 ohms. If this is the case, then bridged it should put out around 80 wrms which it does not. The speakers I used on it were Infinity Kappa 5x7's first used unbridged, then bridged. I upgraded to a JBL amp which pushed 90 wrms to my speakers and that was a major difference in sound quality and performance.

In my opinion, I wouldn't waste my money on Pioneer's non-Premier amplifiers. If you spent just $50 more, you could get something much better. These amps are fairly overrated, although during the time I used it, it worked flawlessly.
