Midrange in Dash

mids in dash

I want to place the 6.5" Midranges from the K3P set I just purchased. I want to place them right next to my tweets that are to be in the a-pillars. Will I have to take out my windshield, or can I just remove my dash pad and do the buildup from there? What do you guys think?

btw...anyone want to buy that bug??? Dude only want's 11,500 for it with system included. I would love to do it, but I own 4 vehicles already...but man...I love that install! The equipment is worth over 20 grand retail...so you are really getting a good deal.

anyway..any help you guys can give me, would be greatly appreciated.

no ideas? Should I make a template from the original dash pad and make a new one out of MDF? Then build them up out of fiberglass before placing the new pad back into the dash? Just curious.

how come you want your mids up high. i dont like that bug because they have the mids reflecting off the windshield. i always have liked my mids and tweeters down low and im not really a fan of the dash it dosnt line up very well. with that many hours in that i think it should be alot nicer.

well I have to bring my image up. There is no room in the kickpanels for the mid/tweet combo, the wells just are too narrow, so the dash is the only place.

You'll probably want to take the dash pad off, that way you can use the windshield to your advantage to get the positioning of the mids correct for the image you want. Dash installs can work very well if you put time into it. You'll want the mids to cross over around 200-300hz.

FYI, though, dash installs tend to work better with dome mids, like those from the DLS Iridium sets.

I wish if I hadn't just plunked down about a grand for these new components. Actually I have sort of a sponsorship from my shop and Focal is their best components. We are just beating up our minds trying to figure out how to get the best imaging possible for these speakers. Unfortunatly the dash is just about the best bet for us. maybe if we create a domeshaped...maybe glassed...speaker grill...hmmm
