Im looking for good SQ subs that get loud... I dont wanna go with JL... I have a set of KIcker L5's now and i was told that they are from SQ subs. So i was looking into Diamond D6's please give me some feed back and some IDeas...... i also was thinkin about trying to get into competeing in SQ contests.

What is your budget for subwoofers? Competing in SQ is a lot harder and more expensive then you think

im wondernig what do you have against JL? they make very good speakers. (other than the price)

i dont think he has a beef with them it just seems like everyone and there brother uses them. like the w7 i think the bravox BVX would smoke a W7 not only in sq but spl

For the last couple of years I've seen more JL bashing than promoting. Most forum goers will do everything in their power to downplay the product, but everything they make ranges from very good to excellent. Not my favorite company for everything, but as an overall manufacturer I'd list them as #1. Also a company with business principles that I agree with.

no its not that i have anything against JL i mean they have good stuff i just wanna try something diffrent..i was looking to maybe the Diamond d6's,or something like the image dynamics idmax's or something like that around that price range. And i do know competeing will cost me lots of money but i just wanna try and get something started i mean im not expecting to be 1st place in the my state or anything i just want it sound really good... and if i wanna compete i could and not look really dumb if that makes any sence.... so please me some ideas for subs. proably up to 350 a sub, and anything lower then that.

i see what your saying, and agree.. i boughot my JL sub on impulse.. ir eally wanted to get my system going. Only thign i regret is dropping $400 for the jl sub and amp when i could of got a much better system THAT SAME DAY. i could of got a RE SE 12" for the same price as the 13, and a 600.1 off this forum for $100... the rest owuld of gone for the wiring kit and box.

I would suggest looking into Focal's Access line or even the Polyglass subwoofers. Excellent sound quality, low price, and you definately will be in an exclusive club. I am the only one here on this site with a Focal Sub, although I am hoping that will change sometime.

competing in sq has alot more going into it than just getting good speakers and amps. Be prepared to dampen nearly every panel in your car. I have over 130sheets of Hushmat in my car, along with Hushmat foam for my subwoofer box. A sound Q car is a labor of love. You may never achieve perfect imaging and staging, but then again, it is cool trying new stuff too.

More a response to the "everybody and their brother" mentality I see on most forums, it seems that an "anti-JL" bandwagon has developed over the last couple years. RE, Ascendant, Adire, and others have become bandwagons in the process and will be bashed similarly in a couple of years I'm sure. At what point does a brands popularity become a liability? I feel you limit yourself when you develop a preference to be "original", or when you stick with what works for that matter. Just get what the hell gives you the performance you're after

. They're also a grass roots company that started the same way that RE, Ascendant, and Adire did, they just didn't have the benefit of word spreading quickly through internet forums. It makes me wonder where these companies, which are quite good, will be in 10 years. I guess the trick is to keep raising prices so you'll be considered esoteric.

Steven, out of those you mentioned, you'd likely be most successful with an ID Max. Proven subs in SQ arenas, and they work well in a variety of installs. Focal has nice stuff as OnYrMrk has mentioned, SEAS also makes some really nice subs. Just depends on what kind of organization you intend to compete within, as you'll have to hit cap, though they're altering SPL rules again this year.
