Ported vs. Sealed
I (will) have two of these:
http://www.cardomain.com/item/KIC06TS10L74
Going to config them 2ohm to a Kicker 700.5 d-class 500+ watt sub channel (amp spec'd at 968w).
I had some Kicker (round C-10 series) truck boxes around these size years ago and plugged the ports. The bass seemed MUCH tighter/controlled.
Wondering if I should try that with these?
I like tight/controlled bass. Any opinions appreciated.

Sealed for more sq, ported for more spl... If you build a good sealed box for the l5's the should sound fairly decent...Worst Nightmare wrote:I (will) have two of these:

Plugged the ports?
So you made it sealed.
What you are hearing is the flatter response without the gain of a ported box.
I would just buy the subs and makebuy a sealed box.

I've heard of Polecat. Very respected. However, I've already got the pre-fabbed truck boxes (via kicker) that fit perfect behind the seats (with them all the way back).
They just come ported and I'm going to mod them to sealed.
Just noticed my link didn't work... Try this one. These are the boxes I have:

The problem with that box its probably tuned way to high (around 40ish)... Do you have tools and do you think with a little help you could build your own sealed box?
(edit: if you were a closer I'd build you a box for free if you helped and paid for the materials..)

Holy cow. You seem to be a super guy. Too bad I live 500 miles away :) . We would definitely hook-up.
Does "tuning" have anything to do with a sealed enclosure? I thought only "enclosure volume" had any effect. I'm guessing those enclosures have around 1.5-2c. If I seal them via a mdf panel, I would think only internal volume would have tune effect.

Right. You dont tune a sealed enclosure, however internal volume does play a role in how the box will sound/perform...Worst Nightmare wrote:guessing those enclosures have around 1.5-2c. If I seal them via a mdf panel, I would think only internal volume would have tune effect.
