Box question

My very ignorant friend (in car audio that is) wants to build a box for his single 15L7 to be put in his 97' Honda Accord. He wants to go ported..and i'm still wondering how he would be able to do it right in an Accord. I think size may be an issue, but maybe not. Anyways he wants the back of the box to be plexiglass. Personally, I'm not into the whole plexiglass for looks thing, but thats what he wants to do so....I'm wondering what problems he might run into with any of this. Would plexiglassing the back of the box make the box any difference performance wise? Also i'm assuming you would use 3/4" plexi if this is indeed a good idea.

It shouldn't as long as it doesn't flex much. Just make sure it doesn't leak air.

he can use plexiglass as long as its thick enough, but it costs alot so thats up to him. also i hope when you guys do this box you do it to the specs and everything.

The plexi is out of the question now, thank god. Because of his lack of knowledge with boxes I really want him to build a sealed box for the L7..I think its a safer idea. It will be built to specs. Problem is..its goin in an accord..Although the trunk is pretty deep, it lacks in heighth..like most trunks..any suggestions for what size box you would use in this situation?

or you could make the box with the sub facing up, just make it short but long and wide, dunno how hard it would hit like that though

dont forget to dynamat that trunk otherwise the trunk is gonna rattle like mad. ive always had good luck when putting boxes in trunks to face the sub up a little like opposite of what ryan said...but who knows. you could always build the box and try facing it different directions to see what sounds better

Don't do sealed, seald sucks when it comes to L7s. go ported. follow the suggested ported volume in the manual, unless you are knowledgeable in custom port tuning. which way you fire the sub is not very important as long as you don't have a restriction in front of the woofer like a trunk lid, don't fire it up. you will get the best reuslt firing it straight back, but it won't be a huge deal. obviously the kid wants to get loud, go ported. you should be able to fit the box in the trunk if you do your home work before building. it will need to be a custom box. do a slot port, don't use roubnd ports, to noisy. if you need more help, email me, I have friends at Kicker, I can get you the best design for the box.

for the accord I'd definitely go ported. tune the port to about 28Hz, and use a port diameter no smaller than 6" ID.
I'd take out the trunk carpeting, and spare tire, and fiberglass it in.
build a false floor with the sub firing straight up.
that's going to be the easiest fir for that car with a large square sub.
he'll be able to use the spare tire depression to house the magnet structure, and he can fiberglass in places for his amplifiers etc as well if he wants to.
in the end he'll also get the most useable space from his trunk once everything is in place, if the sub has something like a grille over it to protect it.
