Big Daddy, or big poppa, or old guy, you have a good start now. the Cliff Design speakers are definately entry level, but a good start. The CVX12 in its factory box is a good sub to play with. As for amps, I am not fond of directed, but you can look at Hifonics or Crunch and get better quality for nearly the same price. Ask Bill (Bwcad1), Terry (Smoker) or Michael (CarGods) for some advice on the Hifonics and Crunch amps, or they may even have a better alternative for you. Good luck...and Welcome to the forum.

i like the Kicker zx series amps much more than the Directed amp, and there is a great matchup between the amp and the sub there...
Also to note, Kicker amps almost always put out more than their stated power, so there is another positive...
As for that box... Ditch it and ask Ryan from Ohio here to build you one of his custom boxes for it

um u have 2 cvx's right ? Are they dual 2 ohm or dual 4 ohm? So yea that amp would work but i would try to go with something like this if u have 2 subs... http://cgi.ebay.com/HIFONICS-BXI-1206D- ... dZViewItem
If you only have one CVX... then i would recomend going with
http://cgi.ebay.com/ORION-HCCA-D2400-CL ... dZViewItem
Also u can get a good deal on a Crunch amp probably from Bwcad1

There's nothing wrong with mixing or matching amps, really depends on the application... One amp may be better suited for running your front stage, while another better suited for the sub.
