System for my brother's car

Post by aaron_sk »

My little brother is looking for a system for his daily beater Buick. Problem is the car is probably going to end up sold, or in the scrap heap, so I'm not wanting to do anythat will kill the electrical system, or do that much work on the install just to have to tear it all back out later.

His budget is probably around $450 total. Gonna start with the deck, and sub(s), and then front stage depending on how much money he wants to put into it.

HU: Alpine CDE-9874 or Pioneer DEH-P4000UB
Leaning towards the Alpine, since I've been hearing sh** about the new non-Premier Pioneer stuff.

Subs: Two Pioneer TS-W307D4's. I figured I'd drop a single 12 but the Best Buy guys sold him on dual subs for some reason. Kinda unsure about these, but he's stuck on the idea of dual 12's, and they're dirt cheap. Personaly I was leaning towards a single 12" like a Type-R or Kicker or something.

Amp: Looking for a mono-block that's not going to kill the stock alt. I've had good luck with my 300.4 Elevation amp, and they make a 500.1, but it's still wide open here.

Any ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks guys. :thumbsup

The pioneer subs sound kinda ok for cheap subs, I helped a buddy of mine put a set of 12's in his ford ranger. I built him a box and they sounded alright for what they were.

You need to set down with him and figure out what he wants the system to do sound quality or bass. Then go from there.

Depending on how old this kid is I wouldn't let him blow a whad on a system for a car that he may be getting rid of in a year or two just seems like a waste to me. Drop some cheap subs in there a decent amp and don't go all out on the wiring and he'll be happy. I'm sure if he is a teen he is looking for bass, and doesn't care to much for SQ. Ultimately its his money just try to lead him in the right direction.

If you are looking for amps that aren't going to be rough on the electrical system, you definitely want all class D amps, full range and, more-so, low frequency. You should be able to find Avionixx class D amps very cheap (if you can find them). Also, look for a sub that is very sensitive.

Everything else is really up to your preference.
