Focal sub installed

Post by tomcat »

Well I finally built a box and installed my Focal 33v1. Will it get louder as it gets broken in? I am kinda disappointed in it right now, I thought it would be louder. I have only had used subs before so I'm not sure, but I thought I read that they would get louder after break in. If its as loud as it gets now I think I will get a new sub and amp.

I agree with Terry it looks like the port is way to small to me.

What is the wattage on your amp??

Yeah focals aren't know to be loud subs, but given the right box you should be happier than you are.

So whats the box tuned to, what amp do you have, and how is it wired? If its a dual 4 ohm sub you could have it wired for 8. That will drop your output a lot.

I'm on board with these guys... chances are it's the box and not the sub.

The box is 1.79 cu. ft. and tuned to 32.65 Hz. The sub is a single 4 ohm 400 watt RMS and the amp is a ppi PC2400.2. The amp is bridged, left positive right negative. It should be getting at least 400 watts. I have read that these amps are underrated so it may be getting more.

I think I tuned it to low.

Does it get louder after break in? Because it does seem better know. Maybe the problem is my old sub, the Focal sounds way tighter. Maybe I just need some time to get used to it. Right now its in the wifes car, but when I get back from Chicago later this week I'll move it to my car.

Do you have the gains set properly? Are you sure that its tuned to 32.65 Hz. Maybe you have a dimension wrong on the port?

I used WinISD alpha to calculate the port size.

Your port area is just to small IMO. I dont have specs handy but I could look it over for you when I get some free time?
