The Audio System: Plan and Components
Parts used in this build
No parts listed for this build.
I literally dreamed of building this exact audio system for the last 30 years. While I've built some killer systems in my prior Camaros, I never had the funds to build it “the way I really want”. That all changes now.
Retro-Style System With Massively Oversized Power
It took me a long time to gather all the perfect components for this build and my primary goal was simple: OVERSIZE. I wanted oversized power and all my wires at max size for every possible component input/output. Here are all the initial components for my build:
- Sky High Car Audio oversized wire all around
- Phoenix Gold ZQ series amplifiers (1,500 watts RMS each)
- 12" KICKER Gold 50th Anniversary Subwoofers
- Optima Yellow-Top Battery
- Sky High Car Audio Battery Terminals
- Individual double shielded gold RCA's
- RCA Distribution with Isolation
- Brass Bushes for all wire passthroughs in amplifier rack (sourced in Europe)
- ResoNix CLD Sound Deadening
- Ferrules and Shrink Wrap
The Color Scheme: Black, Red And Gold
For the visual design, this is going to be a badass mix of black, red, and gold. The car is mostly red, with a lot of black accents. Therefore, the subwoofer box and amplifier rack will be all black carpet, which should go perfectly with all of the surrounding red.
The audio equipment is the only place in the vehicle that contains gold / brass, and it should have just the right amount for a really elegant look.
Phoenix Gold Amplifiers Sourced From Europe
Unfortunately, Phoenix Gold was discontinued in the United States market and it is impossible to find these particular amplifiers anywhere in the USA. Because I was dead-set on obtaining a matching pair of ZQ1500.1 amps, I actually ended up having to order them from Austria over in Europe. It was a bit of a challenge, but I am thrilled to have them.
