2.3 turbo or 5.0 v8 swap for the ranger.

I was gonna chime in and say turbo...those 2.3L 4 bangers can handle a lot of power. Realistically you can make about as much power on a 2.3L block as you can a 5.0L block...5.0's block tends to take a dump on you in the 400+ RWHP range which the 2.3L can also handle on stock internals and not a lot of $$.
Add the sleeper effect.

That's true, but realistically I'm shooting for around 300 hp.Jonathan wrote:I was gonna chime in and say turbo...those 2.3L 4 bangers can handle a lot of power. I kind of have a little hobby of collecting the gt40 heads and intakes, and I want to show potential customers that you can build a heathly v8 using o.e.m parts...
It can be alot of fun trying to get the 2.3 turbo running correctly, and I'm not really that familar with turbo set-ups.
The v8 is a little more forgiving, and I'm pretty familar with the 5.0's. Not to mention the 5.0's are the best sounding motors ever, and the 2.3's ehh.
Read my thread (Business Plans), it will kind of explain things.
Well I can see from a business standpoint why you'd want to go with the 5.0, but myself I'd be just as torn as I Loooove the idea of a turbo... So here's what you do...
Throw out all the ideas of stock internals and turbo the 5.0

The stock internals will take a good bit of abuse, it's the stock block that is questionable after about 400hp.cargodz wrote:So here's what you do...

I could run a turbo and be fine with about 6lbs of boost on the stock components.
If anything, I'd probably just toss on a 100 shot for those nights at the track. But on the streets, 300 hp in a single cab, 2wd ranger is plenty.

Yeah you are right 300 on a single cab should be good.
