Another mustang???

Post by MobileAudio219 »

I'm going to look at it saturday. It's an 88 gt, 5.0, 5 speed.

The guy sent me some pictures and it looks pretty nice, but I havent seen it in person so it's hard to say.

We've been talking back and fourth, and I think I'm going to trade my ranger for it (I have less than 500 bucks into the truck.)

The motor in the car is junk, but the rest of the car seems to be in decent condition.

I'm going to build a mild motor for it, 306 with gt40 heads and intake, stock h.o cam...

I'm leaving the body stock, might get some aftermarket 17" pony rims later on, the orginal pony's were 16".

The car already has the following mods:

Headers (not sure if the or shorties or long tube, or what brand)
Flowmaster catback
Short throw shifter
NEW King cobra clutch.

I'm jealous. I wouldn't mind having a '92 LX again. But with more than a 2.3L this time. I was in high school at the time, what can I say? Had the crappiest system in it too. But I tried. meh, mabey one day.

So heres the plans for the engine (if I get the car.)

Stock short block: New rings, main/rod/cam bearings, oil pump, freeze plugs, stock replacement timing chain.

H/C/I: Rebuilt Gt40 heads (maybe p's), GT40 intake (ported lower), stock h.o cam, 1.7 rockers.

I'd take the block to the machine to have the cam bearings replaced and the block checked, hopefully it wouldnt need to be punched so I could re-use the stock rotating assembly. I'd probably go ahead and replace the push rods and lifters as well..

I'd put it all back together with new gaskets/seals along with a fresh tune up...

Kind of a boring economy build, but should run good on 87 octane and should be speed density friendly... and be good for high 12's low 13's! :D
